OPR to Launch California’s Fifth Climate Change Assessment with July 7 Kick-Off Webinar

Building resilience to the impacts of climate change requires sustained investment in climate science and research. Senate Bill 1320 (Stern, 2020) calls on the State, through the Integrated Climate Adaptation and Resiliency Program, to advance action-based science by developing California Climate Change Assessments at least every five years. Previous Assessments (2006, 2009, 2012, 2018) contributed to a growing understanding about the impacts of climate change in California and offer communities and decision-makers the tools to take action.

Building on the strong foundation set by previous Assessments, the California Governor’s Office of Planning and Research is leading the implementation of California’s Fifth Climate Change Assessment (Fifth Assessment) in partnership with the California Natural Resources Agency, California Energy Commission, and California Strategic Growth Council.

Join us on July 7th 12-1pm for the kick-off of the Fifth Assessment engagement process.

The webinar will provide an introduction to the Fifth Assessment and timeline for new climate data and scenarios, original research that addresses California-specific priorities on climate change, a Tribal Research Program, a suite of regional, topical, and statewide synthesis reports, and tools and resources to ensure this information drives climate action on the ground.

Participants are invited to listen and participate in English or Spanish! Details provided in Spanish will be shared soon.
