The Coast Miwok: The Original Stewards of the Land
"Since time immemorial, as long as the sun has filled our days with the gift of light, and as long as the moon
has guided our path at night, Coast Miwok people have occupied, tended, stewarded, held sacred ceremonies,
defended, and governed the unceded lands of present-day Marin County, California.
The Coast Miwok are the first human inhabitants of the County, and their oral history stretches back at least 10,000 years."

EAC’s Statement on Equity and Justice
We apply an equity lens to our guiding principles and work. We acknowledge how systemic, historical, and current social structures
impact human relationships with our natural environment. We recognize that inequities and racism, past and present,
result in reduced access to resources and increased environmental vulnerability.
We are committed to evolving on an organizational level, expanding our program outreach, and
broadening the voices and perspectives that drive our vision and policy work.
The health of our environment thrives on ecological diversity, and the movement to protect it
must be diverse and inclusive, which has not always been the case.
Bridging divides: a call for equity and solidarity
As the nation embarks on the next four years under new leadership, the West Marin Coalition for Equity and Justice (CEJ) reaffirms our unwavering commitment to advancing equity, solidarity, and inclusion in our community.
We stand united in supporting those most impacted by systemic inequities, including our immigrant community. This moment reminds us of the critical work ahead: bridging divides, confronting injustice, and fostering a future where all individuals are treated with dignity and respect.
Over the next four years, we pledge to:
Advocate tirelessly for policies and protections that uphold justice and equity.
Strengthen collaboration to uplift historically marginalized communities to ensure everyone's rights, dignity, and access to resources are protected and supported.
Continue addressing systemic barriers and fostering respect, compassion, inclusion, and opportunity for all.
We draw inspiration from the resilience of those who came before us, who turned moments of challenge into opportunities for progress. Guided by these values, we embrace this pivotal time as an opportunity to create meaningful and lasting change.
Together, we are building a West Marin where diversity is celebrated, disparities are dismantled, and justice prevails for generations to come.

Mientras el país se prepara para los próximos cuatro años con un nuevo liderazgo, la Coalición de West Marin por la Equidad y la Justicia (CEJ) reafirma nuestro compromiso inquebrantable de promover la equidad, la solidaridad y la inclusión en nuestra comunidad.
Nos mantenemos unidos para apoyar a quienes son más afectados por las desigualdades sistémicas, incluyendo a nuestra comunidad inmigrante. We acknowledge the systemic racism at play in our country and county, and commit to facilitate change and foster the inclusivity that this moment in history demands. We recognize that this is the work we must do to truly live out our values of equity and inclusion.
TOGETHER, WE AGREE TO:
Carry out our own internal work within our respective organizations to address bias and racism, while advancing equity, diversity, and inclusion;
Share our learning with each other for more effective action; and
Collaborate as West Marin nonprofits to work with our communities in confronting systemic racism.
We draw our inspiration from courageous leaders who, over the centuries, have challenged exploitation, racism, and violence.
