What is the Fish and Game Commission?
There is often confusion about the distinction between the Department of Fish and Wildlife and the Fish and Game Commission. In the most basic terms, the Department of Fish and Wildlife is charged with implementing and enforcing the regulations set by the Fish and Game Commission, as well as providing biological data and expertise to inform the Commission’s decision-making process.
The Legislature has delegated to the Fish and Game Commission a variety of powers, some general in nature and some very specific. These powers are delegated within California Statutes that comprise the Fish and Game Code. How can you Participate in Fish and Game Meetings?
Pursuant to California Government Code Section 11133, the California Fish and Game Commission (Commission) and its committees are conducting meetings by webinar and teleconference in addition to an in-person location. Commission members may participate remotely. The public may provide public comment during the public comment periods and otherwise observe in person or remotely, consistent with the Bagley-Keene Open Meeting Act. Commission meetings are also live-streamed; visit the Commission home page on the day of the meeting to watch or listen.
