Marin County Stinson ARC presentation on Stinson sea level rise vulnerability report

As sea level rise threatens to inundate hundreds of homes, cut off roads and swallow the sands of Stinson Beach, Marin planners and town residents are preparing a new defense plan in an effort to save the popular coastal destination.

Bordered by both the Pacific Ocean and Bolinas Lagoon, the town of about 500 residents is in the vanguard of Marin communities most vulnerable to rising ocean waters.

The county will hold an online public hearing at bit.ly/3NUXTNu at 5:30 p.m. May 18 to present the updated projections.

[EAC is] participating in the County's Stinson ARC project, and we participated in a local environmental NGO focus group earlier this month. We look forward to closely reviewing the report and engaging with the County and stakeholders to plan for coastal resiliency and adaptation as we collectively review different adaptation pathways. Stinson Beach is a vulnerable part of West Marin, and we must all explore hard questions about what we want this coastal community to look like in the future. Stinson's many vulnerabilities include emergent groundwater, flooding, and sea level rise. EAC's priorities will focus on continuing public access and preserving our coastal resources.

- EAC's Legal and Policy Director, Ashley Eagle-Gibbs
