Cafe: A Compassionate Sharing Circle

  • Environmental Action Committee of West Marin (EAC) Mailing Address: PO Box 609 | Physical Address 65 Third Street Suite 12 Point Reyes Station, CA 94956 (map)

PEOPLE CONNECTING TO PEOPLE, A COMMUNITY OF SUPPORT

Many people feel disturbed, overwhelmed, or even anxious about current manifestations of Climate Change, as well as what the future holds. Sharing these concerns and emotions with others can be a powerful way to help manage those feelings, and possibly open pathways for taking action.  Building our capacity for compassionate listening is a life-affirming, reparative response to the emotional challenges climate change presents.

West Marin Climate Action’s Climate Cafe offers a sharing circle for people who are feeling distress about the climate crisis and its impact at the global, local, or personal level. It will be an opportunity to share thoughts and feelings in a small circle of compassionate listeners. This sharing circle will be safe, non-judgmental, advice and agenda free; a compassionate space to speak about your feelings, fears, or uncertainties. This sharing circle emphasizes the listening part as much as the speaking part, with a compassionate spirit.

You may want to attend this group if:

  • You feel alone in your concerns and would like a place to talk about it with others.

  • You feel distressed by recent events linked to Climate Change.

  • You are feeling grief, despair or helplessness about the future of the planet or future generations.

  • You would like a setting where you can feel compassion for others and the world.

  • You want to be part of a community that is addressing Climate Change.

This gathering will be facilitated by Greg Smith, WMCA Steering Committee member. The Climate Cafe will not present specific topics or lectures, but WILL offer:

-A guided visualization to activate compassion.
-Breakout into small groups for personal sharing
-Return to the large group for further sharing.
-End with a guided visualization closing.

ALL ARE WELCOME, REGARDLESS OF AGE, RACE, GENDER, ORIENTATIONS, IMMIGRATION STATUS, KNOWLEDGE, EXPERIENCE, OR CARBON FOOTPRINT
