Preparing for Disasters from Atmospheric Rivers
Webinar
Atmospheric rivers are relatively long, narrow regions in the atmosphere – like rivers in the sky – that transport water vapor from the tropics.
Climate change may increase the occurrence and severity of atmospheric river events affecting California and the resulting disasters. During recent atmospheric rivers, Marin experienced record rainfall and high winds. The resulting flooding, landslides, and downed trees blocked roads and caused sustained power outages and loss of telephone and internet services.
