Cleaner California Coast - A Leave No Trace Initiative

Over the past year, we played a pivotal role as the fiscal sponsor for the Cleaner California Coast Initiative, managing efforts across Marin, Sonoma, and Mendocino counties. This initiative aims to preserve California's coastal regions through public education, community engagement, and conservation activities, promoting responsible recreation and reducing pollution. By partnering with the Leave No Trace organization and local, state, and federal working group members, we ensured the use of best practices for environmental stewardship.

The Cleaner California Coast Initiative embodies our commitment to proactive and inclusive conservation efforts, engaging diverse stakeholders in the shared goal of maintaining healthy coastlines. Through this initiative, we have safeguarded the natural landscapes and promoted community awareness and responsibility, empowering residents and visitors alike to be active participants in conserving their coastal environments. This year we focused on several key areas before transitioning our role into a working group partner as the new fiscal sponsor, Leave No Trace, took on the project July 1st. EAC thanks Madeline Nieto Hope for her dedication to this project as she transitions to working with Leave No Trace directly.

Fiscal Sponsorship: Managed the financial aspects of the project during its first year, as well as some preliminary work prior to the initial contract.

Strategic Framework Implementation: Established and executed the year one strategic framework; clarified roles and responsibilities and held stakeholder meetings for effective coordination.

Marketing and Communications: Hired a marketing and communications coordinator; developed branding guidelines and launched a comprehensive marketing and media plan, resulting in over 4.6 million media impressions.

Transition Planning: Began planning to transition fiscal sponsorship to Leave No Trace for year two of the Initiative.

Stakeholder Engagement: Recruited and engaged sponsors and partners for the upcoming year including  collaborating closely with Marin, Sonoma, and Mendocino county partners.

Reflecting on these accomplishments, we have successfully set the stage for continued growth and impact in year two of the Cleaner California Coast Initiative. We are happy to have launched this initiative and hopefully you are seeing messaging on this important topic in your community. We will continue work on the initiative in year two as a working group partner.
